Joshua: Keys to Conquest
Joshua: Strength and Courage for the True Man of God
Joshua 15-19
Chapter 15:16-19
Achsah and Othniel. A continuation of the story of Caleb’s inheritance. He was bold and daring. He also
spurred others on to great deeds and boldness.
Chapter 15:63
Jerusalem would not be conquered until David came along.
Chapter 16:10
There are still battles to be fought. There is not “retirement” in the life of a Man of God. Only temporary
respites. The sooner we come to grips with this, the better off we’ll be.
Chapter 17:3-6
This was unusual but reveals that God doesn’t always follow convention. This is the result of Numbers 27:1-11,
which comes right before Joshua being named Moses’ successor.
Chapter 17:14-18
The “half-tribes” request more land allotment. Yes, they are larger than some of the other tribes, but this seems
to be born more out of greed and laziness than practicality. Joshua wisely tells them that they can have more
land but they’ll have to earn it by using what God has given them.
Incomplete Conquest
Chapter 16:10
Chapter 17:13
The conquest is noted as not being completed. Some of the Canaanites were subject to “forced labor.”
1. Greed?
2. Laziness?
3. Disobedience!
Joshua’s Allotment
Chapter 19:49-51
God blesses:
1. Faithfulness
2. Humility
Big Idea: God is never finished with us.
