Joshua’s Missing Day
1. What’s the point?
a. God can do anything.
b. God will, literally, move heaven and earth for His people.
i. Here in Joshua 10.
ii. In 2 Kings 20.
iii. Acts 16
iv. In Matthew 28
Joshua and Israel doing what God said – destroying just about everybody in Canaan
1. This is a difficulty. Why would God advocate what amounts to genocide?
2. Are we in the same position today?
3. Where does Jesus’ death and resurrection fit into all this.
God hardens the hearts of the Canaanites.
1. This is also a difficult one. God hardens a person’s heart? What about grace and mercy?
a. We have to take this hard teaching with other parts of the scripture that are not so “hard” to understand
(let scripture interpret scripture).
i. God’s mercy. Exodus 20:5-6
ii. God’s mercy in Jesus Christ
iii. God’s judgment at the end of time
